The neural crest (NC) is a discrete mesenchyme that separates from the closing neural tube. It is composed of pluripotent cells that migrate throughout the body during embryonic development to give rise to a highly diverse cell types. NC cells (NCC) are of major interest to medicine, due to the variety of related malformations and oncogenic predispositions to which abnormal development can lead, known as neurocristopathies.
